A Two days training programme on Human Rights at Kalingpong Don Bosco Technical School

There was a two days training programme on Human Rights for the teachers of Kalingpong Don Bosco Technical School on 28th and 29th of November’11. Mr and Mrs John were present there as resource persons. Total six teachers are there and all of them participated the training programme.

On 28th Nov’11.The training was started from 09:15 am. A short welcome programme was arranged for the resource persons and project coordinator. After that the first session was started with “Introduction to Labour Laws” from 09:20 am by Mr John. There was discussion on the working conditions, working environment, availability of basic conditions for basic safety, post independent Indian parliament etc in the 1st session.

Various types of questions and quarries like ‘How the corruption can be curbed in industry?’, ‘According to law, girls can’t work in the night shift. But in BPO how are they working?’, ‘Are the institutions come under labor law ?’ etc. were raised and the answers were given by Mr John in that session in this way ‘We have to fight corruption from our society to decrease it in industry’, “In BPO our working time does not matche with USA and UK time’, ‘Labour law is not applicable for the institution because labor law is for the workers not for the students’ etc. The first session continued till 09:40 am. After that “Labour Legislation and Industrial disputes” was discussed by Mrs Bridgit John. In the second session the discussed topic were occupational insecurities and safety, primary regulations, social justice, national economy, international conventions etc.

This was a 10 minutes session and after that feedback session and quarries session was there till 10 o’ clock. After that “Contract Labour Law” was discussed by Mr and Mrs John with theory and practical use also. After that discussion some activities were done by the participants on contract labour law from 10:24 to 10:50. After that tea break was there till 11:15 am. The next session was “Payment of Bonus Act” from 11:15 am to 11:50 am and some activities were done on payment of bonus act from 11:51 am to 12:11. Then the next session “ Payment of Wages Act” was discussed from 12:13 pm to 12:35 pm. Lunch Break was from 12:35 pm to 1:15 pm. From 1:15 pm to 1:50 pm there was discussed “Maternity Benefit Act”. The activities on maternity benefit act was done till 2:05 pm. after that session the next session was discussed on Leave till 02:28 pm. The last session was Equal Remuneration Act. It was discussed till 2:40 pm and after that there was feedback session till 3 pm.
